Your wedding should be all about your personality, and a groom’s cake is the perfect opportunity! Wedding Wingman Rachael Teufel of Intricate Icings is here to show you how she crafted an elaborate groom’s cake for Billie and Max that looks like gumbo. Make sure to check out part one for their cake consultation and tasting to find out the story behind this one-of-a-kind cake.
A groom’s cake is a wedding cake served at the rehearsal dinner or with a traditional cake during your reception. Think of it more as an art piece or a replica of something that holds sentimental value to you and your spouse than your typical cake. This type of cake design is becoming increasingly popular with “everything is cake” trending on Tiktok and shows like Is It Cake on Netflix bringing attention to the incredible skills professional bakers have. Stay tuned to see Billie and Max’s dreams come true with a cake spread that mimics a raw oyster platter, gumbo complete with a rice ball, seafood, okra, tomatoes and a spicy brown sauce, and a seafood tower of shrimp, lobster and oysters.
Wedding Wingman Wisdom
“One thing that makes a groom’s cake so fun is that you have every option in the world. It could be your favorite food, or it could be how you met. Groom’s cakes just really run the gamut of theme and style and design. You can do anything you want with a groom’s cake, and I am a firm believer that you should really do something totally creative, that’s really unique and different. I just think have fun with it and choose something that will really blow your guests away, and they’re not going to realize what it actually is.”
