Bachelor Party Guide: Planning Tips, Destinations, & Activities

Congratulations! It’s time to rally the guys and start planning your dream: The Hangover meets Wolf of Wall Street bachelor party. I’m kidding. While looking through planning articles, I’m sure you’ve come across plenty of bachelor “resources” that suggest clubbing, whiskey tastings, and private dances. If this isn’t so much your vibe for the whole weekend, I’ve got you covered. Here’s how you’re going to choose a destination that fits your group’s needs, some cool activities, planning tips, and–most fun of all–how much money you should anticipate shelling out.

Helping us narrow down the best ways to make your bachelor party amazing is Nick Neubert, founder of Wolfpack Weekends.

Essential Tips from Wolfpack Weekends

  1. The best-man decides the location. According to Nick the best-man “knows the groom better than most” and should be tasked with selecting a destination that “matches the groom’s personality and things he likes to do.” Think about the groom’s interest and stick to it. If you’re the best-man and nervous about choosing the destination, Nick adds “involve the groom in the process.” His bonus tip, “keep it as a surprise until the big weekend!”
  2. Don’t finalize the destination without research. Here are three things Nick suggests considering: first of all, time of year; make sure the season allows for the group’s activities, after that, accessibility; will the location be “easily accessible for the group” and finally, cost effective; is the location worth the money. Nick points out researching a “few different destinations ensure you are putting your best foot forward…”
  3. Choose activities wisely.  Bachelor party activities can go wrong in two ways: overbooking or no pre-booking. Start off with Nick’s recommendation, “have one daytime activity and one night-time activity booked for each day of the trip.” And remember, adds Nick, scheduling a “9 a.m. white water rafting trip after a heavy club night is a recipe for disaster!” so, pick your activities and their times carefully.
  4. Talk money from the get-go. The budget, Nick points out, “is an important part of the process… and it can quickly get out of hand.” If you are wondering what other people budget, Nick has seen “groups spend hundreds per person and some thousands.” Nick’s advice, “Get feedback on what people can afford…people in the group can get resentful if they end up maxing out their credit cards, especially if the rough costs weren’t communicated.”

We recommend having one daytime activity and one nighttime activity booked for each day of the trip, this can act as a focal point for the day and give the group some much needed structure.

Next UP…Destinations

Now, I have curated a list of possible destinations for the best bachelor party weekend imaginable. Where can you go that fits your budget and is fun for the whole group? Here are a range of options that you could consider based on what type of trip you’re looking for.

01

Austin

I’m sure you’ve heard about this place from your buddy who just moved here, but let me sing its praises again. Great college sports and a professional soccer team that’s getting a lot of attention. Amazing food, chill bars, and live music, plus swimming holes and a big river to kayak and paddle board on. What more can you ask for? If Austin is too basic for you, try looking at its underrated neighbor, San Antonio.

02

Lake Tahoe

Frosty vistas and snow sports in the winter, lake days and beautiful sunsets in the summer. Oh, and in the spring you can have both. Head to high elevation swimming pools, eat some awesome food downtown, and spend a day cliff jumping and hanging out on the beach. Rent a boat for a day in the summer or rent snowmobiles in the winter. If you want a more relaxing, outdoorsy spot, Tahoe is a great place to consider.

03

Louisville

Take this opportunity to go to the Kentucky Derby, an event of a lifetime! Dress up, place bets, smoke cigars, and drink some mint juleps in Louisville, KY. Plus see the horse race, I guess. Alongside the derby is the charming city, distilleries, great barbeque, and live music. Book this one in advance, because it gets more expensive the longer you wait.

04

Denver

Rock Climbing: Garden of the Gods

Consider somewhere central! Denver is in the middle of the country and will be convenient for your bros in different area codes. Stay in the city to do the nightlife and brewery tours or use it as a home base to check out the mountains, go climbing, take the train to Winter Park, or explore quirkier spots like Nederland. Colorado is unreal-looking and has outdoor opportunities for people of all experience levels.

05

Canada

Cosmopolitan cities that are friendly, lively, and multicultural. Canada has everything you need from adventurous excursions to live music and theater. If you are looking for a diverse set of options, Canada is the place. If you are looking for something outdoorsy, consider going to Banff National Park. If you are looking for something in the city, consider visiting Ottawa or Quebec where the place, people, and endless activities are lively.

Lastly…Activities

What activities will be fun for an entire group of adults? I’ve got you–and I promise none of these involve, like, smoking meat.

01

Paintballing

Have fun doing something silly! Break up into even teams or do groom + best man vs the rest of the group.

02

Surf park

These are available in some bigger cities not by the ocean. Learn how to surf in a low-stakes environment!

03

Top golf

Fun for those who want to work on their swing and those who’d rather have some apps and drinks.

04

Stargazing

Look into dark sky areas, observatories, and planetariums near where you are to check out some really cool stars.

05

Rage room

Break stuff with crowbars, baseball bats, and your own bare hands.

06

Glass blowing

Get your creativity flowing by learning a pretty hard and cool skill. Search for group glass blowing classes in your area.

07

Gun range

Try out some guns, shoot targets or skeet, and loosen up.

08

Climbing

If you’re inexperienced or don’t know the area well, get a guide. Challenge yourselves and get outside!

09

ATVing

Get a thrill and explore.

10

Consider: a co-ed party

Join forces and do a joint bachelor/bachelorette party. This makes a lot of sense if you as a couple share friends or want the bridal and groomsmen parties to meet before the big day. Have some separate activities and some together!

Get the gang together and get ready to have a rock’n bachelor party weekend. Regardless of the destination, you ought to have the time of your lives with some calculations and planning. Remember to consider the groom’s interests as well as the group’s budget and prepare for a weekend to remember!

Wolfpack Weekends helps people plan and organize bachelor parties in Vancouver and Whistler, BC, Canada. They work to create and plan a special weekend in an amazing part of the world. They say that they’ll even “collect all the money from your buddies for you too!”
